Ronald Magada – Maro
Class of 2011 – Guitar Student
Maro is the stage name of Ronald Magada, who is a musician, songwriter, and performer. He is most known for his songs “Mubbi Bubbi” with David Lutalo, “Rising Star,” “Kyokoba,” and “Anjagala,” as well as international features such as “Chip In,” which featured Mark Forster and Maurice Kirya, and “Imani,” which was produced by BSMG, among others.
Maro was a student at the Esom School of Music in 2011 at the same time as his breakthrough single Sula Bulungi hit the airwaves for the first time.

In 2011, with Aziz Azion, Uganda’s most popular vocalist and writer/guitarist, he released his first single, “Sulabulungi,” which translates to “Good Night,” an upbeat love ballad. Biweewo, a song about overcoming barriers in love in his native Lusoga (his original language) followed this success.
After releasing “Genda Ewamwe,” one of his most popular songs, in 2013, he was afforded the right to perform in his first concert, which took place in Freedom City in September 2013. During the same year, he was nominated in the Buzz Teenies Awards, and he was awarded the best collaboration award for “Why” ft. Ugandan hip hop singer “Gravity Omutujju” at the first ever Club Music Video Awards on September 20, 2013.
In honor of his success, he released a song titled “Rising star,” which included snippets of the awards ceremony and his major concert tours at the time.
Maro is an active member of VIVA CONAGUA (an international non-governmental organization established in Germany) which promotes clean water, sanitation, and proper hygiene through the use of art and sport. He has collaborated with organizations such as Uganda Hands for Hope Namuwongo, Uganda Women Cancer Support Organization, Inter Aid for Refugees, and PLAN International (Uganda), all of which place a strong emphasis on the empowerment of women and children.
